Hello everyone,

Sorry it has taken so long to post again. The last two weeks have been very busy and very tiring. The weather has been very good. To answer your question about crossing borders on my bike – I did cross at a place where there were border police but they didn’t stop me and ask me for my passport.

We’re now in England which is very different to Switzerland. Of course it is surrounded by water, English is the native language and most beaches are pebbles not sand.

Christ Church College at Oxford

We’ve seen buildings that are hundreds of years older than anything in Australia. Some of the places we have been to are London, Canterbury, Dover, Eastbourne, Brighton, Salisbury, Weymouth, Bath and an area known as the Cotswolds.

The last week has been spent in a canal boat travelling from Banbury to Oxford and back. It had probably been the best part of our holiday so far. Great weather and travelling at walking pace. People regularly pass us jogging or riding bikes.

It is very peaceful and and yet lots of work. Every hour or so we reach a lock. This means stopping the boat, getting out and using some winch handles to help empty or fill the lock open the lock gate-drive the boat into the lock-go to the next gate use the winch handles again-open the second lock gate then close it behind us and move on. This procedure can take twenty minutes, longer if there are other boats waiting but it’s all part of the fun.

We’re off to Portugal on Saturday. I’ll try to send my next post from there.
Bye everyone,

from Mr and Mrs B
